Delete your account
You can delete your Rate The Road account and your data at any time. The quickest way is in the app. If you no longer have the app, you can ask us by email.
In the app
- If you want a copy of your data, download it first: You, Privacy and your data, Download my data. You get one file with everything we hold about you.
- Then go to You, Privacy and your data, Delete my account.
Without the app
Email the Grievance Officer from the Gmail address you use to sign in to Rate The Road, with the subject "Delete my account".
Grievance Officer: DP Patil
Email: ratetheroad1@gmail.com
We then:
- reply within 24 hours, to acknowledge your request and confirm that it came from you;
- delete your account within 15 days, and tell you when it is done.
We will never ask for your password. If a message asks for it, it is not from us.
What is deleted and what is kept
- Deleted at once: your account, your sign-in (including your Google name, the link to your profile picture and the IP addresses of your signed-in phones) and your feedback. Every device is signed out within a minute.
- Kept without any link to you: your ratings and reports stay in road scores, without your name or comments, so the map stays accurate.
- Kept for 180 days: security records, such as refused requests or limits reached, with your internal account number (not your name or email).
- Kept for 1 year: a record of your consent choices, as proof of what you agreed to.
- Kept for 2 years: the audit record of the deletion (your internal account number and whether your ratings and reports were kept), and of any actions our staff took on your account or reports, with their reasons.
- Service logs: our database provider deletes its logs of your requests, with your IP address, within 1 day.
- Backups: copies in backups are gone within 4 weeks.
